Biography / Aalam Wassef
Aalam Wassef was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1970 and lived in France for over 20 years where he graduated from Fine Arts before engaging in his career as an artist and an independent publisher.
His work involves a variety of media and forms of expression, according to time, place and purpose: animation, installation, photography, sculpture, music, songs, drawings, paintings, happenings and video.
From 2006 to 2011 he worked under several identities and signatures, due to the fact that a large part of his work had political implications in Egypt. On February 11th 2011 he “came out”, after the fall of Hosni Mubarak in Egypt.
Away from the violent topics addressed in his anonymous work, his other pieces revolve around visual and poetic representations of time, memory and the fact of living.
